As our classmates check in I would like to salute our Pirates who have served their country. Thank you for your service, your bravery and comittment to our country. Also, to our children that are now serving. Steve Newkirk's son, Tim, is serving in Afghanistan, US Army FOB (Forward Operating Base) Let's keep him in our thoughts and prayers. Please let us know if you have a child or loved one serving in our military.
SFC, Diane Mestas Buckout, former SLHS classmate, class of '69, sent this email to our class:
While I will not be here for the reunion I do think about sitting outside the jolly roger with a friend with long golden hair. He was a sophmore. I am currently at Fort Hunter Liggett in train up for the deployment with a Psychological Operations Company out of Texas. I finished last week firing 3 different types of machine guns! I live in the Bay Area with my husband, retired Army Green Beret, MAJ Ron Buckhout and my two sons. I know after I send this message that I will remember something else to say. Regards to you all. SFC Dianne R Buckhout, Psychological Operations NCO, Desert Storm 91, Baghdad Airport,Iraq 2003 and Camp Victory, Iraq 2007.
